Bishop Robert
of Stockport
THE
RIGHT REVEREND ROBERT ATWELL, until recently the Vicar
of St Mary, Primrose Hill, London, was Consecrated Bishop of
Stockport by the Lord Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, in York Minster on the Feast of St John the
Baptist, 24th June 2008, and was warmly welcomed at a celebration of
the Eucharist in Chester Cathedral on the Feast of SS Peter and
Paul, 29th June.
Bishop
Robert concluded an encouraging and inspiring sermon with a story
about an Australian cattle farmer who, when asked how it was
possible to herd cattle in such a huge and unfenced area, replied
that though his farm was without fences it did have wells.
"It's our job to keep the water in the wells clean", said
the farmer. "Then the cattle come to us". Churches ought
not to be erecting fences. People are to be drawn to the sound of
Living Water.
